SemGroup is committed to the many communities in which we operate across North America. We support education, health and the environment by contributing our resources, time and talents. Our employees serve on the boards of non-profits, tutor kids in the classroom, restore nature trails and much more. Giving back is a core value at SemGroup. We demonstrate it by taking the time to make positive change. Read on for more about our recent projects and strategic partnerships. You can also keep up with our community activities on Facebook.
In Tulsa, Oklahoma we teamed up with other local companies to help enhance River Parks by sponsoring A Gathering Place for Tulsa. SemGroup donated $5 million to build the state-of-the-art Sports Courts for the new park where people of all ages can play and enjoy the outdoors. Gathering Place recently won USA Today's poll for America's best new attraction.
In Alberta, Canada our partnerships include a 5-year sponsorship of the Allan & Jean Millar Aquatic Centre in the town of Whitecourt and the construction of a youth activity skateboard park in Fox Creek. In addition, we partner with schools, volunteer fire departments and other community organizations across our footprint including Hudson, Colorado, Cherokee, Oklahoma and Houston, Texas.
Mentoring our youth to be tomorrow’s leaders is a primary focus area for SemGroup. We know the importance of education and are dedicated to supporting organizations and programs that build up children in our community to instill a love of learning and focus for the future.
We partner with Junior Achievement and area schools to help provide learning opportunities including business and STEM education and to enrich daily life for students and educators. In Tulsa this partnership is with Rosa Parks Community School through the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce’s Partner in Education Program. In addition to tutoring students each week as part of the "Study Buddies" program, SemGroup employees also take over classrooms for a full day as part of the "Junior Achievement in a Day" program. SemGroup's participation is among the largest in the state.
"Thank you so much to the SemGroup team for investing time preparing lessons and then teaching our students about entrepreneurship and financial literacy through the JA in a Day curriculum," said Rosa Parks Elementary Community School Coordinator Laura Latta. "We were so honored that many SemGroup adults spent time eating with the children and enjoying recess afterwards."
Other support of area schools include our Cushing, Oklahoma team’s partnership with Olive Public Schools and our Houston team’s partnership with Port Houston Elementary School.
Our employees support a diverse range of charitable causes as part of their personal lives, and we help support that generosity. Our Employee Matching Program provides a dollar-for-dollar match of an employee’s contributions to eligible organizations up to $1,000 per employee, per year. We’ve helped double the impact in a variety of areas including youth services, helping homeless populations and supporting health causes in community dollars last year.
Our people are empowered to make a difference, going above and beyond to support worthy causes throughout the country. Our employees are engaged through volunteerism and participation. At the Tulsa Run marquee community event, our employees ran in the 15K, 5K and fun run/walk and also volunteered.
Helping neighbors in need strengthens our community as a whole. Our employees are generous with their time and talents.
Sorting food and packing boxes at our local food bank are ways our employees answer the call to help. Our Canadian's team annual United Way campaign raised more than $50,000 for the area United Way.
